What this Forest Wisdom Journey intends to cover and why it is being put forth now.

While dauntingly difficult, it is necessary to step outside and beyond our old way of seeing things in order to take up, and live out of, a brand-new perspective.

Investment in the growth of others is precisely what catapults one’s own growth.

Wisdom Mentoring finds its deepest transformative power in seeing and in what this seeing brings about. The support and this accompaniment describes the “what” of Wisdom Mentoring; the unique seeing it calls forth points to the “how.”

Many of us have experienced that energy flows where attention goes. What we focus on can become alive and energized. There is a power in seeing, in noticing, in witnessing. Relatedly, many of us have also come to appreciate that how we look at someone or something makes a difference. How we see a situation influences how it will unfold and turn out. Our previous understanding of an outer reality that is objective and set has been replaced by a more dynamic understanding that the perceiving of something has the power to influence and modify it.

Whenever there is a paradigm shift, there is always resistance. And in order to push through to deeper and more novel understandings, there must always be courage and bravery on the part of the innovators who are able and willing to see something that others cannot or will not see.

The paradigm shift taking hold in forest research in particular, and in biological understandings in general, relates to the truth that, rather than vying with each other and in constant competition, all of the various elements of nature make up a coherent whole whose work it is, beyond just individual survival, to sustain the health and wellbeing of the whole, of Gaia.

Even more than our elders, trees can be our mentors. Not only can we see in ourselves and in humanity the possibly for deeper and more communal life together as we see the Forest’s own communal life reflected back to us; but also, there is the very real possibility that we can be supported and guided by the Wisdom of a particular tree.

We can experientially corroborate the Wisdom of great thinkers regarding the interconnectedness of all life. Now it is our turn to live these understandings…
