Responsible AI & Synthetic Media Policy

1. Our Approach to Artificial Intelligence

New Reality Journeys (NRJ) exists to provide a platform where Guides can share original audio journeys, ideas, stories, music, meditations, books and other creative works with listeners around the world.

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of the creative landscape. It can help people write, edit, illustrate, compose, narrate, translate, research and explore ideas in ways that were previously difficult, expensive or impossible.

NRJ welcomes the thoughtful and responsible use of these technologies.

We do not believe that the use of AI automatically diminishes the value, originality or authenticity of creative work. Equally, the use of AI does not remove responsibility from the person publishing that work.

Our guiding principle is simple:

AI may assist in creation. Humans remain accountable for what they create and publish.

This policy applies to the use of artificial intelligence, generative AI, synthetic media, voice cloning and related technologies in content published on or produced for NRJ.

2. AI-Assisted Creative Work

NRJ permits Guides to use AI and AI-assisted tools as part of their creative and production processes.

This may include, but is not limited to:

• brainstorming, research and idea development;
• writing, rewriting and editing;
• generating summaries or supplementary material;
• creating or editing images and artwork;
• music and audio production;
• transcription and captioning;
• translation;
• synthetic or cloned narration;
• audio restoration and enhancement;
• creating interactive or conversational experiences.

NRJ does not require Guides to disclose every incidental use of AI.

Modern creative software increasingly incorporates AI into editing, mastering, image processing, transcription, research and other everyday functions. Requiring disclosure of every AI-assisted action would therefore provide little useful information to listeners.

Instead, NRJ applies a principle of proportionate transparency.

Where AI has made a substantial contribution to something that a listener might reasonably assume was created or performed directly by a human, appropriate disclosure should be considered.

3. Transparency and Disclosure

NRJ believes listeners should be able to understand the nature of the experience they are engaging with.

Where appropriate, Guides should disclose significant uses of synthetic media.

Examples might include:

“Narrated using an AI-generated version of the author's voice.”

“This journey includes music created with the assistance of generative AI.”

“This translation was produced using AI and has not been independently translated by a human.”

Disclosure is particularly important where failure to disclose could create a misleading impression about who created, performed or participated in the material.

Minor uses of AI for editing, brainstorming, research, noise reduction, transcription, formatting or similar production processes would not normally require disclosure.

4. Synthetic and Cloned Voices

NRJ recognises synthetic voice technology as an important creative tool.

It can enable authors to narrate previously unrecorded back catalogues, allow creators to produce material more efficiently and potentially make works available in different languages and formats.

Guides may therefore use synthetic or cloned voices where they have the appropriate rights and permissions to do so.

A Guide must not knowingly upload content that imitates or clones another identifiable person's voice without that person's permission or another lawful basis for its use.

Synthetic voices must not be used to falsely imply that another person has narrated, endorsed, approved or participated in an NRJ.

Where a synthetic voice substantially replicates the voice of an identifiable person, its use should normally be disclosed to listeners.

5. Intellectual Property and Permissions

The use of AI does not change a Guide's responsibility for the material they publish.

Guides are responsible for ensuring that they have the rights, licences, consents or permissions reasonably required for text, audio, music, imagery, voices and other material included within their NRJs.

NRJ does not guarantee that content produced by an AI system is free from third-party intellectual property claims simply because it was generated by AI.

Similarly, NRJ does not determine whether individual AI-generated works qualify for copyright protection in every jurisdiction.

The responsibility for assessing the suitability and lawful use of submitted material remains with the Guide publishing it.

6. Human Responsibility

AI systems can generate inaccurate, misleading, inappropriate or entirely fabricated information.

Guides are therefore responsible for reviewing AI-generated material before publication.

Publishing material generated by an AI system does not transfer responsibility for that material to the AI provider or to NRJ.

Guides remain responsible for the reasonable accuracy, appropriateness and integrity of the content they publish, including any claims or advice contained within it.

This is particularly important where content touches upon health, wellbeing, psychology, finance, law or other areas in which listeners could make consequential decisions based upon what they hear.

NRJ encourages exploration, imagination, speculation and unconventional thinking. Such exploration should not, however, be deliberately represented as established fact where it is not.

7. Deception, Impersonation and Synthetic Media

NRJ does not permit the deliberate use of AI to deceive listeners about the identity, participation or endorsement of another person.

This includes knowingly creating or publishing:

• deceptive voice or identity impersonations;
• fabricated testimonials;
• fake endorsements;
• misleading synthetic interviews;
• manipulated media presented as an authentic recording of real events;
• fraudulent representations of another person's views or actions.

This does not prevent legitimate parody, fiction, artistic experimentation or clearly identified synthetic content.

The important distinction is between creative exploration and deliberate deception.

8. Listener Privacy and Personal Data

The use of AI involving personal data must be approached with particular care.

NRJ will handle personal information in accordance with its applicable privacy and data protection obligations.

Where NRJ uses third-party AI services as part of its operations, appropriate consideration will be given to what information is shared with those services, why it is being shared and how that information may subsequently be processed.

Private listener material, including private reflections or other information that a listener would reasonably expect to remain private, should not be used to train public or third-party AI models without an appropriate lawful basis, safeguards and, where required, permission.

NRJ will seek to minimise the amount of personal information supplied to AI systems and will periodically review its use of AI services as technologies and regulatory requirements evolve.

9. AI Interaction with Listeners

NRJ anticipates that future audio experiences may become increasingly interactive.

For example, listeners may eventually be able to ask questions about a book, explore a chapter conversationally or interact with an AI experience created from material supplied by a Guide.

Where a listener is interacting directly with an AI system, this should be made reasonably clear.

An AI system representing or drawing upon the work of a Guide must not misleadingly present itself as actually being that person.

Similarly, AI systems should not make unsupported claims that they are conscious, sentient or independently authoritative, nor should their outputs automatically be interpreted as representing the current personal views of the Guide whose material they draw upon.

Such systems should be understood as computational tools generating responses from models, instructions and available information.

The human creator remains distinct from their digital representation.

10. AI in NRJ Platform Operations

NRJ itself may use AI to assist with platform operations.

Potential applications could include search, recommendations, transcription, translation, content categorisation, customer support, analytics, moderation or administrative tasks.

Where automated systems materially affect users, NRJ will seek to use them proportionately and responsibly.

AI may assist human judgement, but consequential decisions concerning matters such as account suspension, removal of a Guide or significant disputes should not ordinarily depend solely upon an automated AI decision without appropriate human review.

NRJ will also seek to monitor AI-assisted systems for material errors, unfair outcomes or unintended consequences.

11. Accessibility, Translation and Inclusion

NRJ particularly welcomes uses of AI that make creative work accessible to more people.

These may include:

• transcripts and captions;
• translations;
• alternative language narration;
• summaries;
• improved audio accessibility;
• alternative formats for people with different accessibility needs.

Automated transcription and translation systems can make mistakes. Where material has been produced automatically and has not been independently reviewed, listeners may be informed accordingly where the possibility of error is material to their experience.

12. Moderation and Enforcement

NRJ reserves the right to investigate AI-generated or AI-assisted content where there are reasonable concerns about consent, intellectual property, deception, safety, privacy or compliance with this policy.

NRJ may ask a Guide for further information about how material was produced or for evidence that appropriate permissions have been obtained.

Where necessary, NRJ may restrict, remove or suspend content that breaches this policy or other NRJ terms.

Repeated or serious breaches may result in restrictions being placed upon a Guide's account.

These measures are intended to protect listeners, Guides and the integrity of the NRJ platform rather than to discourage legitimate creative experimentation.

13. An Evolving Policy

Artificial intelligence is developing rapidly.

The distinction between human-created and machine-assisted work is also becoming increasingly fluid as AI features become embedded in everyday creative tools.

For that reason, NRJ does not attempt to define creativity according to a simple division between “human” and “AI”.

Instead, we focus on four principles:

Responsibility. Consent. Transparency. Integrity.

We expect the technologies, regulations and creative practices surrounding AI to continue changing. NRJ will therefore review and update this policy periodically to reflect significant technological, legal and cultural developments.

Our aim is not to restrict experimentation.

It is to create an environment in which Guides can explore new creative possibilities while listeners can trust the experiences they discover.

AI can expand the creative toolkit. Responsibility for how those tools are used remains human.
